HEALTHCARE
OUTSIDE FRANCE
The
site to date has only dealt with healthcare provision in France.
But of course people travel more and more frequently so it is
necessary to address the problem of cover when outside France.
There seem to be three options:
E111
Top
up insurance but with an International Option
Travel
Insurance
Carte Européene D'Assurance Maladie. The French equivalent of the EHIC and is available from CPAM offices for those affiliated to the French system. It is valid for a year and, like the EHIC, will give a level of cover for now "necessary" treatment as opposed to previously "immediately necessary" or emergency treatment. The actual level of cover (as a percentage of total costs) will vary from one country to another.

up insurance with an International Option. The best example
seen by the author for this possiblity is the International Option
offered by Goodhealth Worldwide Limited. However this option can
only be purchased in addition to either the Premiere or Premiere
Plus Plans. Apart from offering elective treatment in other EU
states, Accident and Emergency cover worldwide is included. Details
of this plan can be obtained from:

Travel Insurance. Available from brokers in France although it can be difficult to find Annual Multi Trip policies. For this reason Expathealthdirect has linked up with SARL Echo Management which markets a plan issued by AVA. This gives the usual benefits; medical, baggage etc, gives worldwide cover and there are no age limits to entry. More details can be obtained from Expathealthdirect.
